USC Libraries Bioinformatics Services (on the Health Sciences Campus) is seeking a special projects student worker for the following projects:

• Carry out text mining and analysis of a full text collection of life science publication from the PubMed Central.

• Create a database of life sciences publication by USC researchers.  The database will help us not only better understand the research focuses and publication trend of USC life science community, but also the usage of the bioinformatics tools and service in such publications.  The results will provide the justification of our expenditure, as well as improve our decision process in future licensing of bioinformatics software.

Will work independently and required to weekly in-person meetings

USC student with interest in data science:

• Programming skills in Perl or Python required
• Knowledge of information retrieval and management
• Knowledge of major literature search tools such as PubMed, Google Scholar, etc
