Duties and Responsibilities:

This is an hourly position funded by USC Libraries Research Grant with ending date of June 30, 2022. Under the guidance of ILS Director, the Research Assistant will work on a project that surveys the adoptions of artificial intelligence (AI) powered technologies and applications in the library and information field. The study will employ both qualitative and quantitative methods, including interviews and website analysis for data collection and analysis. The datasets collected from these methodologies will then be analyzed for insights, emerging themes and trends, as well as compared to determine whether there is convergence, differences, and correlation from stakeholders. 

 Possible tasks include:    

  • Conduct literature search and compile a bibliography on topics related to the adoption, applications, development, management, and trends of AI-related technology in the library field.
  • Develop a profile of each library technology vendor and open-source solutions on:
    • Their AI-related solution
    • Investment in this technology
    • Visions and concerns on this technology

 

  • Participate in the analysis of interview data and writing of final report
  • Take part in the presentation of the project findings
Job Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:

·         Knowledge of and interest in current trends in emerging technologies, especially those relating to AI, data science, machine learning, natural language processing, voice assistance, and their applications.

·         Proficiency in collaboration and productivity applications, such as Google and Microsoft 365 suite, and virtual meeting tools.

·         Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

·         Effective organizational, oral and written communication skills.

Desirable qualifications:

·         Experience in conducting interviews, data analysis, literature search, and report writing.

·         Knowledge of AI-related technologies, their applications, and its impact on equity, diversity, and inclusion.
