The Wilson Dental Library is seeking reliable and mature individuals for the position of Library Student Assistant. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• discharge/charging materials
• shelving materials
• shelf-reading
• shifting
• processing library materials
• scanning books and journals for interlibrary loan requests
• collection maintenance projects
• answering directional questions
• providing basic reference assistance (training will be provided)
• assisting with opening and/or closing procedures
• referring reference questions to the appropriate staff

Supervising staff will assign other special projects as needed.

Anyone hired for this position must be available and willing to work at least 5-10 hours per week. 

All Dental Library Student Assistants are expected to adhere to the Ostrow School of Dentistry’s health and safety protocols.

Candidates must be current USC students and have Federal Work Study.

Wilson Dental Library student assistants must be reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, self-motivated and have excellent work ethics. Student assistants should also demonstrate a willingness to learn new tasks quickly and ability to remain flexible if/when our library’s hours may change. A pleasant manner with public service to patrons in person and by telephone is also highly desirable. 

Physical demands: frequent computer/keyboard/mouse use; occasional repetitive motion; occasional climbing on step-stool; ability to see/hear/speak, stand/sit/balance; ability to occasionally lift/push/pull up to approximately 15-20 lbs.; simple grasping with left, right, or both hands; fine manipulation and flexion/extension and pinching with left, right, or both hands; reach above shoulder; bend/twist, turn or tilt at the neck/waist. Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such as: preparing and transcribing information; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
