Doheny Memorial Library (DML) is seeking responsible and mature USC students for employment. Selected candidates will be working either at the Doheny circulation desk or the Doheny bookstacks. Under the supervision of full time library employees, duties for the circulation desk primarily include assisting patrons, checking out items, processing incoming items, helping patrons with printing, and other customer-service related duties. Under the supervision of full time library employees, duties for the bookstacks primarily include assessing library shelf space, checking records, book sweeps and transferring items to other libraries, along with stack maintenance. There is growth within either of these roles to handle more complex library duties. Students may be assigned other library duties as needs arise.
Student worker positions may continue into future semesters.
Qualified candidates must be detail oriented and have an eye for mistakes. Candidates must have a great work ethic, respond to supervision, and work independently as assigned. Candidates should be engaged in their duties, be able to provide feedback to their supervisor(s), and assist in updating ongoing procedures. Library experience is preferred but not required. Familiarity with Library of Congress Classification (LCC) is desirable. Candidates are expected to adhere to all USC health and safety protocols. Physical demands: frequent computer/keyboard/mouse use; occasional repetitive motion; occasional climbing on step-stool; ability to see/hear/speak, stand/sit/balance; ability to occasionally lift/push/pull up to approximately 15-20 lbs.; simple grasping with left, right, or both hands; fine manipulation and flexion/extension and pinching with left, right, or both hands; reach above shoulder; bend/twist, turn or tilt at the neck/waist. Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such as: preparing and transcribing information; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
