The Architecture & Fine Arts (AFA) Library is developing the Material Lab, a sustainable material sample collection and related programming. The Lab hosts student researchers, each developing an independent project hosted in Scalar, and identifying relevant material samples.
This is a student worker position reporting to the Head of the AFA Library. Under the direction of Head of AFA, the Web Developer will create an interconnected Scalar site to host the material sample collection and the student projects. This is anticipated to be 5-6 hours per week for the academic year, and will include, team meetings, working independently, and regular communication.
While there are particular elements to be included in the Material Lab website, the Web Developer will be encouraged to create an interactive site that emphasizes student research and the inherent complexity of defining sustainability. The site will not be static; rather, the Web Developer will create a platform that can incorporate new content as the Material Lab grows.
Experience building websites and knowledge of basic design principles required. Knowledge of Scalar or other dynamic publishing platforms is strongly preferred. The Web Developer may receive support from the USC Libraries’ Ahmanson Lab but will also need to independently problem solve. An expressed interest in sustainability and/or art, architecture, and design is encouraged.
