The Architecture & Fine Arts (AFA) Library is developing the Material Library, a sustainable material sample collection and related programming. The Library hosts student researchers, each developing an independent project and identifying relevant material samples. This is anticipated to be 6-8 hours per week for the academic year, and will include both team meetings and working independently. 

Research assistants will learn about the physical properties and social contexts of materials while gaining knowledge of research methodologies within their fields, will strengthen communication and networking skills through interviews and contacting manufacturers, and will participate in the library practices of sourcing information, developing collections, and planning user engagement.

Minimum qualifications include expressed interest in sustainability and the material selection process in art, architecture, and design; effective communication; and time management. Desirable qualifications include experience in conducting research, conducting interviews, or writing reports.
